There has been a lot going on.

We had our first cria of the season born from a maiden female, Miss. Oregon. We named him Rosco after our Golden Retreiver that recently passed away. What a surprise as he weighed in at 26 pounds and that is our biggest ever! He is a beautiful medium fawn sired by a multi-champion male, Chakotah's Wyuna. What a looker too! His extremely dense fiber exhibits rolling skin like we have never seen. Our Que Linda daughter, Double D Opal gave birth to a male playmate for Rosco. He is a lively, healthy male sired by LCA Caden. They are so much fun to watch and we cannot wait to have many more playmates for them in the next few weeks.

SHEARING at Double D Alpaca Ranch LLC 2014

What a great crew!

What a great crew!

WHAT AN AMAZING DAY IT WAS!!! It was so wonderful to have some of our new alpaca customers bring their animals to be shorn on May 11th. We finished almost 50 alpacas in less than 7 hours, thanks to all the team work and our shearer, Armando Victoria and his two helpers.

None of the people who came to help had ever participated in an alpaca shearing event before and yet it just went off like clockwork.
Our crew:
Bryan and Becky Miltenberger (future alpaca owners) of Hermiston, OR
Mike and Elaine Vandiver of Gholson Homestead, Walla Walla, WA
John Rath and Heidi Coles-Rath of NAF Management, Selah, WA
Kerry and Jodie Thompson and their 4 wonderful children, Daniel, Kelli, Nathan, and Jason. They own Patriot Lane Alpacas in Hermiston, OR

We also sheared two for Walla Walla High School's FFA program and one for Jaden Udi, a very active 4-H participant.

Two New Black Suri Females

Susie Q

Susie Q

We are so excited to be adding beautiful black females to our breeding program. Suri Hill Alpacas and Alpacas of Tualatin Valley have agreed to our purchase of one of their lovely foundation females, Hugo's Susie Q. She has produced three lovely suri daughters for them, two black and one fawn. Susie Q is currently bred to the Multi Champion, True Black, Belefonte for a July 2014 cria.

Oregon Alpacas also agreed to sell us a lovely, true black, yearling female, sired by Mr. Cool. Midnight Sapphire. Midnight has some wonderful East Coast genetics including El Pacacola, that we are pleased to be bringing into our breeding program. Midnight will be ready to breed to our own 5th generation color champion, Placido of PVA this year.

Congratulations to Mike and Elaine Vandiver on the purchase of two lovely, suri foundation females for their new farm. Mike and Elaine are restoring The Old Gholson Homestead on State Line Rd. near Walla Walla, WA. They already have two llamas that they inherited from the former owner but they are very excited about raising suri alpacas and also starting a brewery business. We cannot wait to see everything evolve.
